Please feel free to comment and give me your honest opinion. I may even turn this into a novel. Let me know what you think.
Part 1 of the Short Story.
I didn’t understand why we were in the forest at eight pm. I didn’t understand why Kairo couldn’t do this alone.
It made zero sense, and I was mad as hell. The insects and the constant branch hitting me in my face only fueled my anger. I swat another ant, mosquito or whatever in God’s name it was.
“If you had sprayed the insect repellent on as I instructed you, you would not be hitting yourself,” Kairo says.
I refuse to spray that strong smelling crap on me. It stays on your skin for days’ even after you exfoliate. Kairo stops and stares at me.
“Sorry did you say something,” Kairo ask when he knew I did.
He could read my mind. I swallow, this man was not human like me, well like I was a week ago. He was an elf, hundred percent elf and he didn’t look like the damn elf who made the cookies. No, he looks dangerous, and of course, he was hot and had the nastiest attitude. I was holding my tongue because I knew he could kill me.
“That is incorrect; I would never kill you,” Kairo stops and looks at me again. “Regardless of how annoying you are.” Well, that was good to know. However, if he didn’t kill me, this damn forest would.
“Please stop the dramatics. I may not be allowed to kill you, but I could easily render you unconscious or punch you if I so desired,” Heartless elf.
We finally stop, and the Elf bends down and begins pulling out a pair of binoculars and a blanket.
“Sit,” He tells, not ask me. I sit down. “I can’t leave you unattended for a moment without you getting into trouble.”
Hey, it wasn’t my fault that every damn supernatural creature knew I had a drop of fairy blood in me thus making me a fairy.
“They wouldn’t know if you wore the charm I brought,” Kairo replies reading my mind once again. As if I would wear something that hideous, besides the smell, gave me a headache.
“Stop talking,” He barks. He looks through the binoculars at something. I look outward and notice a damn cottage. Who puts a cottage in the middle of a forest?
“Why are we out here and what are you looking at?” I ask. He stays quiet for a long moment before he speaks.
“There is a list of people who want you dead, and my brothers in arms and I cannot figure out why.” I wait for him to continue. “I received a tip, the cottage I’m looking at now, a woman owns it, an elf woman. She is the sister of the brother who is paying people to kill you.”
The sister of the brother huh. I laugh at the thought of that.
“Why do you laugh?” Kairo ask.
“Well because your little stakeout depends on the sister squealing on her brother, which is something I don’t think she’ll do.”
“The supernatural world is much different from the human world. We hate our siblings, we see them as competition only. In essence, we want them dead,” Kairo replies. I sigh.
“Yea I get that, but do you think she’ll tell on her brother and give you the pleasure of killing him. I’m pretty sure she’ll want to do that herself,” Which I could understand, my brother makes me want to kill him every Tuesday, but I would never squeal on him. Blood is thicker than water, and that was my motto.
“Blood is thicker than water, what a silly notion,” Kairo repeats. There wasn’t a point arguing with him, so I kept quiet. “Yes, that is best.” I give him the finger. He ignores me.
We sat out there for thirty minutes.
“You have a human boyfriend, right,” Kairo asks me. I reply back in my mind. I was so ready to be done with this. “Medium height, red and black Mohawk hair, wearing a Cowboy jacket and Jordan shoes.” I shrug my shoulders, of course, he knew how he looked, he met him before.
“What does this have to do with anything?” I ask.
“I think he’s about to have sexual relations with the sister of the brother who’s trying to kill you.” I quickly snatch the binoculars from his hand. “There upside down.” I switch them right side up. As I peer through the binoculars, I see her naked butt and oh what a nice butt it is, one Kim Kardashian would kill for. Then I see Jaylin, trying to take off his drawers but can’t.
